John Kay Kessey is a lifelong Melvindale resident. He served our city in many capacities. John participated with organizing and playing for the Melvindale Redskins Football Team and eventually coached for the team in 1954 through 1960. He is a member of the Melvindale High School Athletic “Hall of Fame”. He served our country in the Army’s 11th Airborne Division and is a member of the American Legion Post 472. John also served as a Melvindale Police Officer and also as the DPW Commissioner. He was the Mayor of Melvindale from 1963 through 1975 and Melvindale Treasurer from 1995 through 2003. John has served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Public Safety Commission. He is the owner of 40 years, “Kessey Contracting”. John Kessey believes his long association with the City of Melvindale uniquely qualifies him to serve as your treasurer. He has pledged to do everything in his power to see that the office is run efficiently and in a manner that will be a source of pride to the city.
