Effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2021, and

Remaining in Effect until 11:59 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2021


Pursuant to the guidelines being enforced for Health and Safety regarding the COVID -19 virus, City Hall located at 3100 Oakwood Boulevard, Melvindale, MI, has been temporarily closed to the public.  However, we will still be maintaining a strong online accessible presence in order to continue to assist in providing timely and efficient services.  We will be continuously monitoring our phone calls, email and mail for all incoming communication.

·         Drop boxes: Residents can avoid coming inside City Hall by utilizing the 24-hour drop box. Please provide as much detail as possible, noting on the check and envelope if the payment is intended for the Building Department, Water Department, a tax bill or other purpose.

With Detroit and Wayne County residents facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wayne Metro has inaugurated a new CARES Relief & Recovery Services program, making $11 million available to provide assistance to area individuals and families with immediate needs. The program is being funded through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

On June 11, 2020, the Wayne County COVID-19 Situation Report included the following information regarding Wi-Fi Hotspots:

The COVID-19 pandemic and transition to remote and distance learning has only increased the need for residents and students to have easy access to broadband services. In response, the State of Michigan, in partnership with the Connected Nation Michigan, released a statewide Wi-Fi hotspot map to assist residents who currently lack internet access at home.


UPDATED Notice Regarding Yard Waste and Recycling Services

  • (Updated) Due to Covid-19, GFL will ONLY collect yard waste for grass, leaves, and basic yard cleanups, beginning April 14, 2020, until further notice.
  • Effective April 13, 2020, GFL will start the collection of recycling materials.
