Notice Regarding Disposable Wipes & Shop Towels

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) wants Water & Sewer Customers to be aware of the problems being caused by the flushing of wipes down the toilet.  Wipes clump together in pipes and cling to wastewater collection and treatment equipment, causing blockages and straining and damaging equipment.  An information video, created by GLWA in collaboration with Macomb and Oakland Counties, can be viewed by clicking here.

In addition to the above problem, the City of Melvindale has been having to clean out sewers which have been clogged by disposable shop towels.  These are heavy duty paper towels, such as Scott Multi-Purpose Shop Towels or Scott Rags in a Box All Purpose Towels.  Please do not flush these, or any other type of paper towels down a toilet.  It creates unnecessary problems and expense for the City and its residents.
