City Clerk Office 313-429-1055
Option 2: Licensing/Ordinances/Accounts Payable
Option 3: Licensing/Ordinances/Employment
Option 4: Voter's Registration/Elections

The City Clerk's Office handles calls for many of the Departments within the City of Melvindale. The City Clerk's Office is the records keeper for the entire City.

Voting Registration — Elections for State and Federal Offices (Presidential, Governor, U.S. and State Representatives) are held in even years; local elections (Mayor, City Clerk, and City Council) are held in the odd numbered years, every four years. To participate and vote, it is necessary to register.

The best way to register to vote is in person at any Secretary of State branch office, or at the City Clerk's office. You may also register by mail. Applications are available for download at the Secretary of State website:
http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,1607,7-127--25412--,00.html

After you register, you will receive a voter card by mail indicating your voting precinct and your state and federal district numbers.

Freedom of Information Act — The City Clerk's Office is the coordinator for all Freedom of Information Act requests. An application for copies of public records is available for download by clicking on the Quick Link box on the right, under City Forms, Applications and Ordinances. Mail the application to us, deliver it in person, or fax it to us at (313) 383-3993. You will be advised of the cost involved.

Animal Licenses — All DOGS, 6 months of age or older, must be licensed and have a current Rabies Vaccination Certificate. New residents may purchase licenses within 30 days of moving into the City. Other residents have until April 1st of each year to renew their pet's license. The cost is $6.00 per year.

Required items for purchase of license: Signed rabies certificate

Business Licenses — Business license applications are available at the City Clerk's Office. All businesses must renew their licenses every year.

Garage Sale Licenses — A license from the City Clerk’s office is required for Garage Sales or Yard Sales. The license fee is $5.00. Not more than two licenses shall be issued to any person or location within a calendar year. No license shall be issued for a period longer than four days. See the Quick Links box on the right, under City Forms, Applications and Ordinances in order to download the Application for Garage Sale and the Rules & Regulations for Garage Sales. Bring the completed application to the City Clerk's office to pay for and receive your license.

Enforcement and Complaints of Ordinances — Requests and complaints regarding ordinances can start at the City Clerk's Office and then they are referred to the Building Department and/or the Police Department for resolution.

Employment Opportunities — When positions of employment are available within the City, applications are available at the City Clerk's Office. Applications are continually accepted for positions within the Melvindale Civic Center, the Department of Parks and Recreation, as a Crossing Guard, and with the Department of Public Works as a seasonal employee from May 1st to October 31st.

The City Clerk's Office has the following items available, and the cost associated with each.

City Charter $10.00
Copies of Ordinances $1.00
Code of Ordinance Book $50.00
Zoning Book $15.00
Zoning Map $1.00
